Welcome to Worship this week
For Sunday 23 August until Saturday 29 August

A special welcome if you are  joining us for the first time.  We’d love to welcome you properly, so please get in touch with us through our dedicated email: welcome@standrewsgwp.org

Have a look at the resources below, and decide what you would like to use for your worship. There is a variety to suit all ages.
Set aside a time and a place (kitchen table, sofa) for God that works well for you. Try to keep Sunday special, but feel free to dip in to any of the resources at any time throughout the week.
If you are able to, you might like to print children’s or all age resources before you begin.
Then simply worship just where you are, knowing that you are still connecting with your St Andrew’s family.

Worship Suggestions for families with younger children:
Summer series
for Skids (Sunday Kids) on the book of Daniel. Use either one per week or as a “Holiday at Home” club.  This Sunday we reach the fifth chapter. We’ll hear that a hand appeared and wrote a message on King Belshazzar’s wall, which Daniel explains is a message from God, telling  Belshazzar he will never be greater than the one true God:  click here.

Material for older children and youth. During the summer our Sunday youth group, Fusion, with the supporting youth material on this web page, is taking a break. If you are a young person, or worshipping with a young person, you are invited to use the materials below, and the video services on August 9 and 30.

Opening prayer:

God of all time
for whom eternity is but a moment;
we worship you.

God who lived among us
and knew life with all its suffering and all its beauty;
we worship you.

God who is the wisdom of the ages
Spirit of all truth, healer and comforter
we worship you and give thanks for your presence with us today.

Opening music for this week

Feel free to select from the songs offered, or to use them all in if you’d like to. You can sing out loud or listen to the music, whichever helps you worship. The songs this week have been selected by Andy Harrison.

Worship song: How Can I keep From Singing

Worship song: Living Hope

Hymn: Lead us Heavenly Father

We say sorry to God:  Confession

As we come to God knowing that only he sees our hearts completely,
let’s take a moment to ask for his forgiveness and peace.
You may like to pause after each sentence and tell God anything specific that is on your mind.

Say these words of the confession out loud:

God our loving heavenly Father
we admit that we have sinned against you
through our own fault,
in thought, and word and deed,
and in those good things we have failed to do.
We are truly sorry
and turn away from all the wrong we have done.
Forgive us all that is in the past
and help us to serve you in newness of life
and to the glory of your name.

We receive God’s forgiveness
May God who loved the world so much
that he sent his Son to be our Saviour
forgive us our sins
and strengthen us by his Spirit
to serve him in the world.

Bible reading of Acts ch.27  v21-41 by Sam Mimms
and Sermon by Rev Canon Malcolm Herbert

Worship song:  You are my Anchor

Prayers by Jakki Mimms
The Blessing

We are called and loved by God the Father
and kept safe by Jesus Christ.
Mercy, peace and love be ours in abundance through his Spirit;
and the blessing of God almighty, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
be with us and everyone we love now and evermore.

Closing song:  Build Your Kingdom Here

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Zoom Church coffee on-line is taking a break during August.

Open for Sunday worship
St Andrew’s will open for a short service of Holy Communion from Sunday September 6, at 10 am. There will be limited numbers, according to Government regulations, and, sadly, no singing. Face masks will be required. If you are among the group of people most vulnerable to Covid-19, Government and Church of England suggestion is that you avoid gathering in church, for now.

St Andrew’s 2020 Summer Series for children on Daniel

Six sessions for Skids (Sunday Kids) on the book of Daniel. Use either one per week or as a “Holiday at Home” club.  Every child in the Bubbles and Xstream groups has been sent a folder full of ideas and activities to do at home as a family. For more details, please contact Karin Rayner at children@standrewsgwp.org

Andy’s Community Cafe re-opening
Mary and Amanda, our Andy’s Cafe managers, are planning to re-open on September 7. This will enable the Food-hub, currently running from the Cafe to continue through August. The first week of September will see a busy period of deep cleaning, re-stocking, baking and re-organising ready for the re-opening. Please let Patrick know if you can help with any of the cleaning or furniture moving in the cafe area.

If you’d like to be added to the distribution list for the weekly church email, send an email to Helen in the church office (but working at her home):

During August
We are pausing many of our activities to give our wonderful leaders a summer break, so there will be no Fusion, Andy’s Natter or Wednesday Prayer in the Morning on Zoom during August. Thank you to everyone who has tuned in – we will be back!
