Thursday 9 April

Patrick is Community and Youth Worker at St Andrew’s Goldsworth Park. Like many parents working from home at the moment, Patrick and his wife also have round the clock parenting duties to perform.

Patrick says: “Between calls and emails I found myself in the garden with my daughter. She practiced throwing her ball into the fire pit, catching and kicking, and in every activity called not only for my presence, but participation. I was less enthusiastic, aware of many things I ought to be doing. But I remembered the song ‘Cats in the Cradle’ by Ugly Kid Joe  and its words:

“When you comin’ home?”
“Son, I don’t know when.
We’ll get together then.
You know we’ll have a good time then.”

Maybe times like now are times for each one of us, whether we have faith or not, to rediscover priorities which are more about the things that matter. It’s also an opportunity to honour, encourage and support all those who have the care and protection of children at this time.
