“May it be” is a song from the film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. As a piece of music it is quite simple. Although originally written for choir, orchestra and the Irish singer Enya (which is readily available on YouTube) the version I’ve chosen here is that by the choral group Voces8. The simplicity and lyrical beauty of the the tune, out of which emerges simple yet profound words, make for a moving musical experience. The words flow between English and the elfish language “Quenya” created by the author JRR Tolkien for his original characters.

“May it be” is a song of hope rooted in present reality.

The day between Good Friday and Easter Day was a fairly bleak and dark day for those friends of Jesus. This song is for all those who are struggling at the moment. The darkness will pass.

To you “May it be your journey on to light the day. When the night is overcome, You may rise to find the sun”.

Mornië utúlië ((darkness has come))
Believe and you will find your way
Mornië alantië ((darkness has fallen))
A promise lives within you now
May it be the shadows call
Will fly away
May it be your journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun
