I’ll let you into a secret: during this time of lockdown I’m trying to learn how to play jazz piano. It is not as easy as I expected, so please don’t ask me to play you a jazzy number when we get back to some form of normality! Also any hints and tips gratefully received.
We encountered Bob Chilcott a few weeks ago. As a singer with the famous “Kings Singers” he had the opportunity to work with the jazz greats like George Shearing and Johnny Dankworth. His “Little Jazz Mass” contains elements of blues, jazz lullaby and, here in the Gloria, we have some pretty lyrical, upbeat and driving rhythms. Chilcott has successfully brought together the Latin mass with Jazz. Wonderful!
What I call Resurrection music. Music rooted in the past but throbbing with future hope and life.
