Friday 27 March

The Vicar of St Andrew’s Goldsworth Park, Revd Kate Wyles, has suggested this beautiful version of Psalm 23 “The Lords my Shepherd”. The sense of being held in love by God who is described in the Bible as the Shepherd comes over so powerfully. For Kate it’s become an anthem for these strange and difficult times. As the Bible reminds us:

He will feed his flock like a shepherd;
    he will gather the lambs in his arms,
and carry them in his bosom,
    and gently lead the mother sheep. (Isaiah 40)

For people of faith, God is our Shepherd … we are his lambs. Lest we think it’s all one way, maybe the reference to “mother sheep” is a call to us … to become mother sheep as it were and ensure that we care for others in our families and community. We think too of those many people who are “mother sheeping” us in the wider community at the moment.  Give thanks for them and remember them in prayer and thought.
